We’re halfway through 2025 (terrifying, right?) and I don’t know about you, but I was having a rough time of it for the first half of the year.
Last November, I dislocated my shoulder (one of my more unstable joints thanks to hypermobility) and lost most of the use of my left arm for several months. Bit of a spanner in the works when it comes to writing! I took lots of time off to focus on recovery and I am glad I did, because now I am in a much better place to build a sustainable writing routine.
I’ve been steadily chipping away at a new WIP - a YA fantasy with fairytale vibes about a fae changeling and a knight who bonds with a dragon. Basically all my favourite tropes thrown together. It started as a much-needed respite from the stress of injury and pain, but it’s grown into something I’m rather proud of, and now I’m busy working on revisions to polish it up for beta readers and querying.
My previous WIP is in a drawer right now. I still love it, but it needs *big* edits and I was getting burned out trying to implement them. Yes, yes, I chose the shiny new idea, but this one is going to stick, I *promise* :P
Hoping to get back to posting here every month or so now my shoulder is (mostly) healed and I can type again. Writing with disability remains tough. I remain determined to find a way to do it.
I’m over on instagram too, posting about what I’m reading as well as how the writing is going. I recently finished One Dark Window by Rachel Gillig and loved it, but I didn’t realise it was a series (a cardinal sin!) so now I’m impatiently waiting for the sequel to become available at my library.
My manuscript is calling me, so time to get off the laptop! Thanks for being here, truly. Community is so important with writing - I’d go crazy all by myself.
Sending many high-word-count days your way,
Jase
